S. F. JOHNSON, grocer, of the firm of Sprague & Johnson, Bloomington; was born in Belmont Co., Ohio, Sept. 9, 1824; during his early life he began to study for the ministry in connection with the M. E. Church. In 1845, he removed to Christian Co., and, in 1847, became regularly engaged in the work of the ministry. He was married in July, 1851, to Miss Mary Ellis, of Christian Co. He continued in the ministry until 1861, when he organized the 17th Kentucky Cavalry, and entered the service as Colonel, serving four years. He came to Bloomington in 1875, and, in 1877, became engaged in the grocery business. He is a man of good physical as well as mental powers, and a much-respected citizen.
