Below is a family biography included in The History of McLean County, Illinois published by Wm. LeBaron, Jr. Co. in 1879.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. E. H. WARD, farmer; P. O. Potosi; was born Sept. 27, 1820, in New York; he went from New York to Pennsylvania, and, when quite young, engaged in driving a team for a lumber dealer; when 18 years old, he went to Ohio and engaged in farming; in 1849, he moved to Kendall Co., Ill., and began on farm, working by the month, at $10 to $14 per month. In 1850, he was married to Ruth Brown, of Ohio; he remained with his father-in-law a year, raising tobacco; in 1852, he moved to Kendall Co., Ill., and was engaged in farming seven years, renting four years; he then bought eighty acres, which he traded for 160 acres in McLean Co., remaining on that six years; he then sold out and bought the present farm of 160 acres. He has been Commissioner twelve terms. They have seven children — Benjamin, now a missionary in India; Willie, born Dec. 16, 1855; Henry, March 16, 1858; Albert, Jan 14, 1861; Arthur, Jan. 19, 1863; John Logan, April 28, 1865; Nannie, Jan. 17, 1870. His wife’s father, Charles Brown, was one of the first captains on Lake Erie.
