B. W. Adams, circuit and ex-officio county clerk, Miller County, is a native of South Carolina, and opened his eyes to the light of this world in Lawrence County, on September 23, 1845. He was the third of twelve children born to Herbert and Martha (Wallace) Adams, both of whom were South Carolinians by birth. The mother died in her native State, and after her death the father immigrated to Baker County, Ga., and there lived until his death. The subject of this sketch was reared on a farm in his native State, receiving his education in the common country schools. He accompanied his father to Georgia, but later went to Caddo Parish, La., and wielded the birch there for a period of six years. In 1863 he enlisted in an independent artillery company from Georgia, and served his cause until the surrender. He came to Arkansas in 1871, and took up his residence in Miller County, where he has ever since made his home. He was elected to his present office in 1888, and the trust of the people has not been betrayed, for he has made a most faithful and capable official. He is a first-class farmer, and cultivates about 30 acres of his farm, comprising 1,000 acres of good land. In 1874 he was united in marriage to Miss Fannie Westerfield, and their lives have been brightened by seven children, all of whom are living at home: Henry, Mena, Mattie, Maude, Bennett, Guy, and Emma. Mr. Adams is a man of honesty and integrity, and takes a front rank among the prominent and enterprising citizens of Miller County.
