Below is a family biography included in Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Howard County, Arkansas published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1890.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. H. S. Goodlett is a native of Arkansas, and was born April 26, 1846. Today he stands high in Howard County as one of the most prominent and successful farmers in that district. His father was a native of South Carolina and his mother of Arkansas, and they were married in 1844. The father was an active politician, a member of the Baptist Church, and fought in the Indian War as captain of his company. Our subject received his literary instruction in Ouachita County, and in 1864 enlisted in the late war as a private under Capt. C. C. Scott, in the Fifth Arkansas Battery, Confederate States Army, and afterward devoted his entire attention to farming. In 1871 he led to the hymeneal altar, Miss Fannie Caldwell, and they had nine children, viz.: Thomas, David, Daron, Emett, Eliza, Windford, Ruth, Harvey and Nunn. Mr. Goodlett owns a large amount of valuable land, which is excellently well cultivated. He is at present justice of the peace, an office which he has held for ten years. Both Mrs. Goodlett and himself are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He is at present ruling elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, an office which he has held for eighteen years.
