C. C. Leddon, planter, Monticello, Ark. Among the many wide-awake and enterprising tillers of the soil in Drew County, none is more deserving of mention than the subject of this sketch. He was originally from Randolph County, Ga., where his birth occurred March 28, 1844. He was reared and educated in Georgia, and was early instructed in the duties of farm life. In May, 1861, when only sixteen years of age, he enlisted in the First Georgia Regiment, and served for twelve months, and during the remainder of the war was in Company H, Fifty-first Georgia Regiment. He was in active duty for four years and five days, and was a brave and faithful soldier. He was wounded three times, first at the battle of Chancellorsville, on May 1, 1862, by a gunshot; next at Knoxville, Tenn., on October 19, 1863, by a gunshot on the top of the head, and the third time by a gunshot in the left arm and shoulder. The ball is still in his arm. He first held the rank of orderly sergeant, and during his service was drilled for six months by a drill officer. After the surrender he returned to Georgia, and there remained until October 19, 1866, and on November 3 of that year he located in Drew County, Ark., where he remained for three years. From there he went to Bradley County, and after a residence there of eleven years, returned to Drew County, where he still resides. His principal occupation is farming, and he is the owner of ninety acres of good land. He was married on February 14, 1868, to Miss Jane Godfrey. Mr. Leddon is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and is a good substantial citizen. He was the youngest of eight children, four now living, born to the union of Jesse and Louisa (Smith) Leddon, natives of Germany. The parents came to this country in their youth, and were married in Georgia, where they located, and where the father passed the remainder of his days. The mother is yet living, and resides on the old homestead. The farther was a farmer and a mechanic. He was also a shoemaker, and followed his trade the principal part of his life.
