The grave site of Lorne Greene, best known as Ben "Pa" Cartwright in the Bonanza television series. Greene was born on February 12, 1915, in Ottawa, Canada as Lyon Himon Green.

Greene began his career in radio broadcasting after graduating from college. During World War II, Greene served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war, Greene found work as a narrator in documentary films. He later landed parts in several film and television episodes. The role he is most known for is as Ben Cartwright, "Pa" to Adam, Hoss and Little Joe Cartwright on Bonanza from 1959 to 1974. Bonanza was a highly popular television series of the time and was the first to be regularly broadcast in color. Bonanza came to an end not long after the death of Dan Blocker who played the role of Hoss Cartwright. In 1963, Greene built a home called Ponderosa II in Mesa, Arizona that was a replica of the Cartwright home in the Bonanza series. In 1964, Greene's spoken ballad, Ringo, was a number 1 single record. After the Bonanza series ended, Greene took on several television roles. His next well known role was as Comander Adama in Battlestar Galactica (1978-79) and in Galactica 1980.

Lorne Greene died of pneumonia following ulcer surgery on September 11, 1987 in Santa Monica, California. Greene was 72 years old. His remains are buried in Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery, Culver City, California, just a few feet away from the crypt of Michael Landon.
