Below is a family biography included in The History of Sumner County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. A. D. Peyton, dealer in groceries, queensware and hardware, was born in Rutherford County, Tenn., in 1860. Capt. Thomas D. Peyton, his father, was born in 1831 in the same county as our subject, and was a son of John Peyton, who was a native of Wilson County, this State. Thomas D. resided in his native county until 1878, when he moved to Nashville, merchandising until 1880, when he moved to Sumner County and engaged in agricultural pursuits. During the late war he was captain of Company E, Forty-fifth Confederate Regiment of Infantry and as such led his command at Shiloh. Owing to ill health he was compelled to resign his commission at the reorganization. He and wife were parents of ten children, five yet living. A. D. Peyton is the fifth child. He secured an academical education in his native county and at nineteen years of age graduated at the Goodman Business College, Nashville. For two years he was employed as traveling salesman from Nashville wholesale houses, but in 1882 engaged in farming in this county at which he continued three years. In 1886 he established his present business, which has prospered from the beginning. Miss Willie S. Bell, daughter of Maj. Robert Bell of Wilson County, became his wife, December 20, 1882. He is a Democrat and a member of the K. of P., and he and his wife belong to the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
