Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. ZECHARIAH ZACHARIAS, machinist, Verona, was born in Nautyglo, Monmouthshire, Wales, in 1837, but lived in Pontypool from boyhood until he came to America. When eleven years old he was employed in an iron-foundry, and has followed iron-work ever since, educating himself by private study. In 1861 he arrived in Pittsburgh, with about four sovereigns in his pocket, and soon found employment there. For the last twenty-four years he has been employed by the Allegheny Valley Railroad company. He is the owner of two lots, on which he built a house in 1879, and brought his family to Verona. He also owns a lot and two houses in Pittsburgh. The family are associated with the Welsh Congregational Church in Pittsburgh, and Mr. Zacharias is a republican. He was married, in 1865, to Margaret Thomas, a native of Cardiganshire, Wales, and they have two children: Jesse Walker and Ellen Maud.
