WILLIAM E. WINTER, dairyman, post office West View, was born Nov. 5, 1839, in East End, Pittsburgh (formerly Peebles township), a son of Edward and Elizabeth (Jones) Winter, natives of England. They had three children: Rachel, William E. and Anna H. The father died, and the mother afterward married Thomas Towers, a native of England, and to them were born three children: Moses (deceased), Walter T. (deceased) and John A. William E. Winter received his education in this county, and at the age of seventeen commenced the dairy business, which he has continued up to the present time with marked success, still retaining some of his first customers; he also cultivates a farm of sixty acres. Mr. Winter married Caroline Mohn, a native of this county, of German descent, and their union has been blessed with three children: William E., Frederick T. and Charley M. Mr. and Mrs. Winter are members of the Lutheran Church; he is a republican.
