Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. WILLIAM CRAIG, grocer, McKeesport, was born in Westmoreland county, Pa., Nov. 10, 1823, a son of George and Mary (Thomas) Craig, the former a native of Ireland and the latter of Chester county, Pa. They settled in North Versailles township, this county, in 1827, and removed to Butler county, Pa., in 1844, where they resided until their deaths. They reared a family of twelve children: Joseph, Matilda (Mrs. John Ludwick), Louisa (Mrs. William Taylor), John, Mary (Mrs. Andrew Hafer), Martha (Mrs. Thomas McGill), Julia A. (Mrs. David McKee), William, Rachel, Stacy, Eliza J. (Mrs. John Boyle) and Emily (Mrs. Thomas Chandler). Our subject was reared in Westmoreland and Allegheny counties, and removed with his parents to Butler county in 1844, where he was engaged in farming until 1871. He then came to McKeesport, where he has since resided, and for a number of years has been engaged in the dairy business. In the spring of 1885 he embarked in the grocery business, in which he is still engaged. He married, in 1872, Ruth, daughter of Samuel Elliott, of McKeesport, and has five children: William, Charles, Clifford, Linnie and Mary. Mr. Craig is a member of the M. E. Church; politically he is a democrat.
