J. C. ZWINGLER, brick-manufacturer, Reynoldton, post office Hero, son of Henry and Rachel (Heilman) Zwingler, was born in Dravosburg, this county, in 1858. His parents, natives of Germany, on coming to America located in Mifflin township, this county, but their present residence is at Reynoldton. They have six children: Elizabeth, Margaret, Kate, Rachel, Conrad and J. C. The last named married, May 24, 1888, Ella A., daughter of William Gerhold, of Castle Shannon, Pa. In 1884 he established the first brick-manufactory in Lincoln township, the firm being Zwingler & Henry. In the beginning they afforded employment to but four men, but a constantly increasing demand for their brick has necessitated a gradual enlargement of their works from year to year, until now (1888) they employ fourteen men, and their works have a daily capacity of 8,000 brick. They have excellent facilities for shipping, both by rail and water.
