GEORGE V. SEVIN, farmer and lumber dealer at Leetsdale, Sewickley township, was born Dec. 31, 1821, in Grossniedesheim, Canton Frankenthal, Ithein-Bavaria, Germany, and he is the youngest son of George V. Sevin. and his lawful wife, Elizabeth Shultheis, the latter a native of Zurich, Switzerland. They were parents of six children: David F., John G., Jacob, Karl, Magdalena, and George V., the subject of this memoir. He was reared in his native home and learned his trade, that of a mason and stone-cutter. He is a musician of ability, playing on several different instruments, and he served six years as musician in the 5th Cav. Regt. in his native home. On the 3d of July, 1849, he came to America and settled in Economy township, Beaver county, Pa., where he taught a German school for fourteen years in the same district; he also instructed a brass band for a number of years. In 1865 he purchased a farm of 182 acres of land in Sewickley township, Allegheny county, on which he moved in 1866, and has been living there ever since; he deals in lumber and operates a sawmill. Mr. Sevin was married in 1851 to Rachel Schaffer, daughter of John Schaffer and his lawful wife, Margaretha Honig, both natives of Wurtemberg, Germany, and they have a family of four children: David F., John G., Henry and Joseph C. Mr. and Mrs. Sevin are both members of the German Presbyterian Church.
