Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. Warner & Co.   These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. DEBORAH SHANER is a daughter of Philip Snyder, a pioneer of Butler county, Pa., where she was born in 1840. In 1858 she married John Shaw, and located in Lawrence county, where he followed farming until his death, in 1861. In 1864 she married Cornelius Shaner, and located at Coultersville. Previous to their marriage Mr. Shaner had served a year in the army, and afterward enlisted, in 1864, in Co. F, 5th H. A., serving another year. After the war he worked at his trade, that of carpenter, until he lost two fingers, and then in 1878 he went into commercial business, becoming a successful merchant. He died March 25, 1888, leaving a widow and children as follows: Fannie (the late Mrs. F. Titball), Margaret, William George and Charles Cornelius. Mr. Shaner was a member of the Presbyterian Church, of which his widow is still a member; he was also a member of the K. of L. and the I. O. O. F.
