Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. Warner & Co.   These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. CHARLES M. McCULLY, merchant, Dehaven Station, post office Herron, is a son of William and Nancy (Gilmore) McCully, natives of County Down, Ireland, who emigrated to America about 1825. They located in Pittsburgh, where the father followed the occupation of carpenter. In 1832 he purchased a farm in Hampton township, and resided thereon until his death, in 1882; his widow died in 1885. Their family consisted of ten children, nine of whom are still living: Henry, James G., Mary Jane (wife of Lott Morrison), Hugh, Euphemia (a maiden lady), Nancy (wife of Alexander Lawber), Eliza (wife of Samuel Morrow), Sarah E. (Mrs. Edward Chandler) and our subject, who was born on the homestead in Hampton township, Oct. 8, 1849, and remained on the farm, until 1886, when he engaged in general mercantile business at Dehaven Station. In 1877 he married Mary, daughter of J. B. and Mary (Couchroun) McMorland, of McKeesport. They have six children living: Emma Gertrude, Anna Margaret, David Allen, Mary Gilmore, Charles Melvin and Harry McKee (twins). Our subject has held the office of school director of the township, and he and family are members of the U. P. Church of Pine Creek.
