JOHN W. SWISHER, P. O. Hiett, was born in this township in 1834, and is a son of J. and Mary (Haines) Swisher, old settlers. Jacob Swisher, father of Jeremiah, also settled in this county in an early day. Our subject was reared on the farm, on which he worked till 1862, when he enlisted in Company E, Eighty-ninth Ohio Volunteer Infantry; he saw active service throughout the war, and participated in a number of the hard-fought battles. He accompanied Sherman’s army to the sea, and received two slight wounds. He was discharged at Washington, D. C., in 1865.
