Below is a family biography included in The History of Wright County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

S. E. Pope, attorney at law at Hartville, is a native of Davidson County, N. C., born October 17, 1861, and entered Trinity College in 1878, joining the Sophomore class, but left two years later on account of failing health. He came to Missouri, and afterward went to Tom Green County, Tex. In 1884 he returned to Missouri, locating at Hartville, in Wright County, and there he has remained ever since. He was admitted to the bar, and became a practicing attorney at the September term of the circuit court in the year 1888. He was married August 2, 1888, to Miss Fannie Hart, and has one child, Emma Leigh. Attorney Ed. Pope, as he is familiarly called by the people at Hartville, is one of the self-made and rising men of whom Wright County can justly be proud. On being admitted to the bar he became a member of the firm in which he had studied, the firm becoming known as Mansfield & Pope, and he is also a member of the real estate firm of Pope & Stewart. This last named firm have the only complete set of abstract books in Wright County. Mr. Pope is an attorney of unusual ability, and does a large business in the county. He is the son of Thomas and Mary A. (Hale) Pope. The maternal grandfather, John L. Hale, was a native of North Carolina, and the maternal grandmother’s maiden name was Hunt.
