Below is a family biography included in The History of Wright County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. D. W. Hoover, liveryman, of Mansfield, Mo., was born in Webster County of that State in 1855. His father, Jesse Hoover, was born in North Carolina, and there married Amanda Cross, and came to Missouri in 1854, locating in Webster County. He was a farmer, and his union with Miss Cross resulted in the birth of eleven children, all of whom are living at the present time. The grandparents on both sides were from North Carolina, and were prosperous tillers of the soil. D. W. Hoover was reared in Webster County, and was educated in the common schools. At the age of eighteen years he was married to Miss Martha Winningham, a native of Tennessee, and by her has three children: Amanda, Samuel and Walter. Mrs. Hoover died in 1880, and Mr. Hoover took for his second wife Miss Mollie Jenkins, of Missouri, born in 1860. They have four children: Stella, Ada, Sophia and Gus. Mr. Hoover farmed in Webster County until 1881, when he sold out, and opened a livery stable at Seymour, which he managed for a number of years. On coming to Mansfield he bought out the livery firm of Spence & Rippee, and has been sole proprietor ever since. His stock is valued at about $3,200, and he does a large annual business. Mr. Hoover is a Republican in his political views.
