Walter E. Gold, editor and proprietor of the Harbinger, published at Clarksburg, Mo., was born in the “Keystone State,” on June 17, 1869, being a son of W. J. and Martha A. (English) Gold, who came to the State of Missouri in 1870. Here our subject was reared to manhood, his boyhood days being spent in farm work and in attending public schools, until sixteen years of age, when he entered Hooper Institute, receiving a practical education in that institution. At the early age of eighteen years he began the battle of life for himself, as editor and proprietor of the Harbinger, which undertaking has proved quite successful. The paper is ably edited, is newsy and instructive, and has a paying circulation. Mr. Gold is a young man of push and energy, and will eventually make his mark in the world of journalism. His parents are both living, and are useful and honored citizens of the county.
