James Jenkins was born in Nelson County, Ky., in 1849. [A sketch of his parents appears in the history of our subject’s brother elsewhere]. Our subject came to this State, and the following year located in Lewis County, where he has been ever since, excepting three years in the Nevada Mountains. He made two trips there, from 1872 to1876. Since then he has been farming, and has been on his present estate since 1885. He was married in 1880 to Abbie A., a daughter of Warren Leslie, of Kentucky. Their children are Gertie A. and Maynard F. Our sketch is a Democrat, and he and his wife are members of the Baptist Church.
