Below is a family biography included in The History of Jasper County, Missouri published by Mills & Company in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. ELAM HALL, post-office Joplin; business, farmer and stock raiser; was born in Barber county, West Va. His father, D. C. Hall, was justice of the peace in Kosciusko county, Ind., for several years, and was judge of the Circuit Court for many years and finally a state senator. He had ten children, our subject being the second child. At the age of twenty-two he married Miss Lucy Long, daughter of Joel Long, a prominent farmer, and also represented his county in the legislature. Mrs. Hall was born and reared in Kosciusko county, Ind., and was married April 25, 1847. By this union they have seven children, named S. O., F. L., Jennie, Lizzie A., Mary A., Anna D., and Lucy M.; and four deceased, named Joel M., Kate M., and Lucinda E. In 1869 Mr. Hall moved and settled on his present fine farm of 520 acres, 420 under fence and well improved with good buildings. He also has a lead mine on his place. Mr. and Mrs. Hall are members of the Methodist Church. Mr. Hall is very zealous in the cause of Sunday-schools and has always taken a prominent part in them. Himself and family stand high in the community.
