Timothy Hickman, farmer and millwright, was born in Monroe County, Ohio, in 1852. His parents’ history appears in another part of this work. Timothy was educated in the common schools of Ohio, and resided with his parents until his marriage, in 1880, to Miss Susan E. Roberts, who was born in Dent County, Mo., in 1857, being a daughter of Hugh and Sarah Roberts. The first year after his marriage Mr. Hickman resided on his father’s farm, which he tilled. In 1881 he bought a farm in Current Township, on Current River, which he still owns. In 1883 he took charge of a grist-mill, located on an adjoining farm belonging to his mother, and controls and manages the mill as though it were his own. The mill was erected in 1883. It has two sets of buhrs, runs by water, and is patronized by the public twenty-two miles distant, thus showing Mr. Hickman’s popularity as a good miller. In connection with these duties, he also successfully manages a farm of 170 acres, and has eighty acres under cultivation. He is a Republican in politics, and in 1882 was elected to the office of justice of the peace, and served with credit for two years. He is postmaster at Montauk Post-office, a member of the Agricultural Wheel, and he and wife are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
