Below is a family biography included in The History of Barry County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. James B. Hudson was born on February 9, 1852, in Boone County, Ark., and is the eldest of six children born to Harris W. and Martha (Byrne) Hudson, both natives of Tennessee. Harris W. Hudson was born in 1826, and was reared on a farm. When a young man he removed with his parents to Boone County, Ark., where he passed the remainder of his life, his death occurring in 1864. James B. grew to manhood on a farm, remaining with his parents until he was past eighteen years of age. In 1870 he married Virginia E. Frizzell, a native of Tennessee, who was born on June 28,1853. They have had seven children, viz.: Martha Ann, Ora Harris and Cora Paris (twins), Frances L., Ellen Idena, an infant (deceased) and Minnie May. Mr. Hudson was engaged in agriculture in his native county until 1874, when he came to Barry County, Mo., locating in Capp’s Creek Township. In 1877 he immigrated to Texas, but returned to Barry County in 1880. He has good land, and is a successful farmer. In politics he is a Democrat, and for the past two years has served as deputy sheriff of Barry County. He also served as constable for one year in Capp’s Creek Township. His wife and one daughter are consistent members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
