W. F. COLE was born in Todd County, Ky., January 1, 1856, and is a son of Samuel and Sarah A. (Day) Cole, both natives of Virginia, and were of English descent respectively. Samuel Cole was born in 1811 in Virginia, where he was reared and educated, his father being a teacher. On emigrating to Kentucky he settled in Daysville, named in honor of his wife’s grandfather, the first settler in the village. He was a mechanic but followed farming principally; both Mr. and Mrs. Cole were life-long members of the Christian Church, he being a Deacon and leading member. He departed this life about the year 1876. His wife ended her mortality about the year 1879. W. F. Cole, the subject of our sketch, received a good education in his native county; he remained with his parents until four years ago, when he left home and was engaged as a local writer on one of the Elkton papers, continuing in this for a short time; he then engaged in the mercantile trade at Daysville, where he is now handling a complete stock of general merchandise, meeting the wants of the entire community, and is doing an extensive business. He is an enterprising young man, a prominent member of the Christian Church, a leading citizen and one of the influential business men of the village and county.
