My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM H. HUDSON was born in this county, April 30, 1845. His father, Felix G. Hudson, was born in Alabama and came to McCracken County with his parents when a boy. He has been engaged principally as a farmer and trader, and for the last ten years has been in the mercantile business, in Woodville. He has been eminently successful in his undertakings and has acquired a large property. His wife was Vincy Stokes, a native of Tennessee. There are ten children in the family, all living. Our subject spent his youth upon the farm, and improved every opportunity whereby he could make progress in an education. At twenty-two years of age he left home, and for about nine years was engaged in farming, near Woodville. He then came to the town and purchased a business house, opened out in the dry goods trade and now carries a general stock. He has also dealt largely in tobacco. March 13, 1871, he married Miss Fannie Holbert, of Tennessee. They are the parents of four children: Arthur T., Louis G., Onie L., Robert W. Mr. and Mrs. Hudson are members of the Methodist Church. He is also a member of the K. of H.
