Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

THOMPSON FALKNER was born September 11, 1820, in Simpson County, Ky.; removed with his mother in childhood to Calloway County; thence in 1834 to Graves County, and in 1855 came to Hickman County, where he has since resided. His father, Lewis Falkner, a native of Surrey County N. C. died about 1824. Lewis married Sarah Lawson, of North Carolina, who died about 1834. Their children are Mornin, Caroline (Ragsdale), Milford F., Rebecca (Lawrence), William, subject and Narcissa (Nolen). Thompson Falkner was married January 7, 1841, to Miss Susan, daughter of Gideon and Dorothy Price, of Graves County (died in 1862, aged about forty years), and to them were born Henderson F., James W., Sarah E. (Bone), Henry, Thomas F. (deceased), George G. (deceased), Andrew T., Martha (Crooks), Nancy J. (Jones), Joseph, Frances (Lumsden) and Price. Subject was next married, in 1865, to Mrs. Fredonia Hill, daughter of James Doorson. She was born March 1, 1828. Mr. Falkner is a successful farmer, having 310 acres of good land. In religion he is a Cumberland Presbyterian, and in politics a Democrat.
