Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

THOMAS G. JORDAN was born April 10, 1830, in Hickman County, Ky., where he was reared and still resides. His father, William S. Jordan, was born in Anderson County, Ky., in 1799; removed in 1826 to Hickman County, where at different times for many years, he served as constable, magistrate, high sheriff and county judge, and died in 1876. He was the son of George Jordan, of Culpeper County, Va., who was seven years a soldier in the Revolution. George was the son of “Blind Tom Jordan,” of Virginia. William S. married Julia A., daughter of Dr. Allen and Mary (Allen) Caldwell, of Woodford County, Ky., born in 1809, and died in 1848. Their children are: George A., Ophelia C. (Utterback), subject, Mary R. (Gray), Rev. William H., a minister of the Methodist Church; John V., Judge Frank A., Martha A. (Parsons), Eugene B., Leanora (Farris), Virginia E. (Whayne), and Edwin S. Thomas G. Jordan was married January 3, 1856, to Miss Mary, daughter of Rev. John and Melinda (Person) Bryars, of Hickman County, and to them have been born: Lena M. (Shaw), Annie A. (Weaver), Virgil N., John S , Mary T., Frank X. and William P. Mr. Jordan is a farmer, owning 220 acres of productive land, which he is successfully cultivating. He is a Mason, a Granger, a Methodist and a Democrat.
