Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. MRS. MARTHA V. C. GRIFFEY, Hickman County, was born April 22, 1840, in Moscow, Hickman County, Ky., and removed with her parents to Fulton County. She is the daughter of Dr. Samuel B. and Mary A. (Ashburn) Luten. She was married December 24, 1857, to Wiley P. Griffey, a son of Thomas Griffey of Hickman County. He was born March 8, 1831, and died December 21, 1876. He was a man of great energy and enterprise, marked by a public spirit and especially zealous in matters pertaining to Christianity. The result of the union of our subject and her husband was the birth of Luten (deceased), Ida (Roberts) (deceased), Samuel D., Mary S., Thomas (deceased), Martha P. (deceased), Lutenia, Elizabeth, Wiley P. (deceased) and Eckert (deceased). Mrs. Griffey is engaged in farming, and the combined realty of the estate amounts to 600 acres of valuable and very productive land in a good state of cultivation. This family are zealous Methodists.
