Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JOHN M. ROBINSON (deceased) was born June 16, 1816, near Harrisburg, Ky., and at the age of sixteen, came with his parents to Hickman County. They located at Columbus, and engaged in the hotel business till 1843, when their premises were destroyed by fire. The father then moved to Mayfield, where he died in 1856. John M. removed to a farm, where he remained fifteen years. At the close of the war he came to Clinton, where he engaged in merchandising, livery and hotel business until his death, which occurred July 10, 1880. He was married April 14, 1840, to Martha A. Watson, of Georgia; she was born in 1821, and educated in Paris, Tenn. They had eight children, but one of whom is now living, Emma. Mrs. Robinson is a member of the Baptist Church. She still continues in the hotel business, owning the premises herself. She has lately rebuilt and renovated the house throughout, and now has the most comfortable house in the county.
