My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

L. P. PALMER, deputy circuit clerk, was born March 16, 1856, in Benton, Marshall Co., Ky. He is a son of Philander and S. A. (Whittamore) Palmer. The father was born in New Hampshire; he died in 1880, aged fifty-eight; he was a lawyer by profession, and of rare attainments, and few men of the county possessed a greater fund of information than he. He was solicited to be a candidate for the court of appeals, but declined the honor. The mother was born in 1827 in Rockingham County, N. C., and now lives in Benton. Marshall Co., Ky. After attending the public schools of Benton, Mr. Palmer went to Irvington, Ind.; there attended the Butler University one session, and in 1879 went to Colorado, where he remained one year, also performed clerical work there about one year. In 1882 he came to Mayfield, where he has since performed the duties of circuit clerk with marked ability and dispatch.
