Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DANIEL K. HON, a native of Bourbon County, Ky., was born February 6, 1829. His father, Peter Hon, a native of Nicholas County and a farmer, was a member of the Christian Church for sixty-five years, and a minister since his twentieth year. He married Elizabeth Clark, a native of Nicholas County, who bore him five sons and seven daughters, the subject of this sketch being the eleventh child. Peter Hon died in 1876, and his wife in 1865, a member of the Christian Church. Daniel Hon was educated in the common schools, has followed farming all his life, and owns 325 acres of well cultivated and well stocked land. He settled in Gallatin County in 1849, on what is known as Ten Mile Ridge, where he remained three years, then moved to a farm on Sugar Creek, where he lived for twelve years, after which time he settled at his present location. In 1848 he married Margaret Coons, of Nicholas County, daughter of Elijah and Sallie (Black) Coons, natives of Montgomery County. Five sons and seven daughters blessed their union, viz.: John, Peter, Elijah, Joseph, Daniel, Sallie, Leila, Lucetta, Fannie, Maggie, Serepta and Pearl. Leila and Fannie are deceased. Mr. Hon is a Democrat, and a member of the Christian Church.
