Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

T. A. PRATHER, Fulton County, was born in October, 1844, in Jefferson County, Ky. His parents, R. C. and M. J. (Givens) Prather, are Kentuckians also, and reside in Fulton County. They reared a family of seven children, subject being the second child, and are esteemed among the prominent and well-to do citizens of Jordan Precinct. T. A. Prather remained with his parents until he was twenty-five years of age, working in the summer on the farm, and going to school in the winter. He possesses good business qualifications, which, coupled with industry, have enabled him to acquire sufficient means to live comfortably. He owns a good farm in Jordan Precinct, and also a tract of fertile land in Obion County, Tenn. He purchased his present home farm in Hickman Precinct in 1882. He was married in October, 1868, to Lucy C. Cross, of Obion County, Tenn., by whom he has one child, Sallie C. Mrs. Prather died in August, 1872, aged twenty-four years. He was next married, in 1880, to Miss Mary McDaniel of Fulton County, Ky. To this union have been born two children: Richard and Thomas. In politics Mr. Prather is a Democrat. Mrs. Prather is a member of the Christian Church.
