Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

REV. WILLIAM TAPPERT was born in Dueren, Germany, in 1848, and is a son of Adolph and Catherine (Hahn) Tappert, natives of Germany. Our subject was educated in his native country. In 1870 he immigrated to the United States, and entered Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, at Cincinnati, Ohio. He was ordained a priest in 1872, and went to Cold Springs and Alexandria, Campbell County, for one year. Then returning to Covington, he took charge of St. John’s Church for six years, and December 12, 1879, took charge of the Mother of God’s Church, with his brother, Henry M. The latter was born in 1855 in Germany, where he was educated, and immigrated to America in 1875. He entered St. Mary’s Seminary, and studied theology four years, when he was ordained May 22, 1879. He took charge of a church at Frankfort, Ky., for six months, when he went to Covington to assist his brother. They are Democrats politically.
