Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

J. S. McCORMICK, a prominent druggist in Ludlow, Kenton Co., Ky., was born in Missouri, January 27, 1856, and is a son of Dr. W. B. McCormick and Ann (Meek) McCormick. Dr. W. B. McCormick was born in Augusta, Bracken Co., Ky., and was a son of John McCormick. Mrs. Ann McCormick was born in Ohio, and is a daughter of Samuel Meek. She was brought to Bracken when a child by her parents. J. S. McCormick received a good education, and entered the College of Pharmacy for three years, was examined by the Kentucky State Board, graduated in 1880, and in 1881 opened a drug store in Ludlow, having in the meantime, however, served as a drug clerk for about five years. He was united in marriage, June 24, 1886, to Miss Anna Robinson of Beaver, Penn., daughter of James and Ann (Camp) Robinson, and a lady of culture and refinement. Mr. McCormick is a member of the K. of P. fraternity, and is politically a Republican. His wife is a strict member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. McCormick has his store very handsomely fitted up for the display of an elegant stock of goods. The assortment consists of a fine line of drugs, chemicals, family medicines, toilet articles, perfumery, cigars, etc., in fact everything usually kept in a first-class drug store. He has a large trade in the city and surrounding districts, and his numerous patrons place entire confidence in his selection of drugs and medicines.
