GORDON, SAMUEL, farmer, section 20, P. O. Clarinda; born in England in 1821, where he grew to manhood, following the occupation of a miner. He came to America in 1849, leaving behind him his wife and children. In 1851 he returned to England, remaining until 1852, when he again came to America, bringing with him his family, and locating in Pennsylvania. In 1853 he moved to Ohio, where he remained until 1855. He then went to Illinois, in which state he resided until coming to this township in 1874. He was married in England to Miss Mary Wandless. They have eleven children living: James, Joseph, Elizabeth, John, Isabell, William, Thomas, Samuel, George, Margaret, and Mary J.
