Below is a family biography included in The History of Warrick County, Indiana published by Goodspeed, Bros. & Co. in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. JAMES H. DOUTHITT, native of Daviess County, Ky., was born December 8, 1832. He received a liberal education in youth, and August 4, 1862, enlisted in Company B, Eighth Kentucky Cavalry, serving until September, 1863, when he was honorably discharged. Soon after his return home, he was licensed to preach in the Methodist Episcopal Church by the Louisville Quarterly Conference, and two years later was licensed as general minister of that faith. He was then transferred to the Illinois Conference, but by reason of failing health he returned to Daviess County, Ky., and served as local preacher until 1872, when he went to Kansas, and labored with Rev. W. B. Maxey in behalf of the Indians for two years, when he moved to Warrick County and purchased one-half interest in the De Gonia Springs, where he is now located. December 23, 1879, he married Miss Hannah M. Hurston, who was born December 3, 1850, and to this union two children have been born: John F. and Harvey N. Mr. Douthitt is a Mason of the Royal Arch degree, and a Democrat in politics.
