BUERKIN, GOTTFRIED, Spring Market, No. 3 Payson Ave. He was born in Baden, Europe, August 14, 1840. Emigrated to America on December 2, 1862, landed at New York city, and from there direct to Quincy, Ill. Married Mrs. Katharina Schmidt, Sept. 23, 1869, who was born in Bremer Haven, Europe, July 27, 1835; two children: Katie, 8 years, and George, 5 years. Religion, Lutheran. Politics, Democrat. Mr. Buerkin is a member of Washington Hayne, No. 3, U. A. O. D., Butcher’s Relief Society, and Humboldt Lodge No. 61, A. O. U. W. In 1865 enlisted in Co. D., 148th Regt. Ill. Inf. for one year, and was honorably discharged at the termination of service. Property valued, real and personal, at $7,000.
