Below is a family biography included in The History of Benton County, Arkansas published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. John Watson, farmer, and native of Benton County, Ark., was born in 1840, and is a son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Rollins) Watson. The father immigrated to Arkansas in 1837, locating in Benton County, where he followed the life of an agriculturist. He is still living, and resides in Barry County, Mo., at a ripe old age. John Watson was educated in the common schools of his native county, and made his parents’ house his home until he attained man’s estate, at which time he entered the Confederate army as private in Company B, Eleventh Missouri Infantry, and served with the same from 1863 until 1865. He was in several battles, but was so fortunate as to escape unhurt. After returning to Benton County he engaged in tilling the soil, which occupation has received his attention up to the present date. He purchased his present farm, which consists of eighty acres, in 1866. His farm is in a fine state of cultivation, and is furnished with good buildings. Besides this farm he owns some property in Garfield, He was married in 1859 to Miss Mary Gaines, and by her is the father of three children: Eliza, Rebecca and Abraham. Both Mr. and Mrs. Watson are members of the Christian Church.
