Colby Chenault, a valuable citizen of the First District, engaged in farming and stock raising, is a son of David and Louisa (Quisenberry) Chenault, and was born in Madison County, Ky., in 1831, being the second of a family of fourteen children. He was raised and educated at home, and May 11, 1854, was married to Miss Araminta, daughter of B. S. and Nancy Harper, of Trousdale County, Tenn. They have nine children: James M., Alice E., Nannie L., Colby B., John W., David Seawell, Jacob Anderson, Sallie Ann and Ernest Emmett. Since his marriage he has been a resident of the First District, of Sumner County, and has lived on his present farm since 1867, owning 231 acres of land highly cultivated and well improved, ten miles northeast of Gallatin. Mr. Chenault rendered about thirteen months’ active and gallant service during the late war (1862-63), under Gen. Morgan. He is a man of energy and good business qualifications, kind hearted and strictly honest. He was formerly a Whig in politics, and cast his first presidential vote for Gen. Scott, in 1852. He is a prominent Mason, and a valuable citizen. Mrs. Chenault was born in the part of Sumner County that is now Trousdale, in 1836, and is an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
