M. T. Brackin, circuit court clerk of Dyer County, was born in the county in 1849, being a son of Isaac and Martha D. (Hendrick) Brackin. He was reared at home, receiving his education in the schools of Dyer County and at the St. Louis University. At the age of nineteen he entered the store of Thomas R. Burgie, at Key’s Corner, Lauderdale County. Later he became a partner in the commission firm of J. W. Parr & Co., at Hale’s Point. In 1875 he became a pilot on a Mississippi steamer, which business he followed for four years. He then came to Dyersburg, and the following year was chosen clerk of the circuit court to fill the unexpired term of William Harris, deceased. This position he has since continued to hold, having been elected the last time in August, 1886. On February 3, 1886, he married Annie Weimer, a native of St. Louis, Mo. In politics Mr. Brackin is a stanch Democrat. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. and A. F. & A. M. His wife is a member of the Eastern Star Lodge, and both are consistent members, of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
